Durga Puja preparations going on in full swing in dists

All sorts of preparations for peaceful celebration of Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community, is progressing fast here.
The celebration of five day-long ‘Sharodiya Durga Utsab’ will begin on October 4 and conclude on October 8 through the immersion of idols in the rivers.
Roundabout 400 artists and idol-makers locally known as pauls are passing busy time for making idols of the Goddess Durga.
General Secretary of District Unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parisad Prashanta Advocte Ronjon Ghush told that a total of 220 Puja Mandaps would be set up in the metropolitan area while 450 Mandaps in all 13 upazilas of the district.
While visiting the largest Ramkishno Mishon Puja Mandap at Nayorpul area in the city this reporter found that artisans spending busy time painting the images of deities to make the idols look more attractive to the devotees and the visitors.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) and Sylhet District Police authorities have already taken adequate security measures for smooth celebration of Durga Puja.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of SMP Zedan Al Musa told that they have taken measures for ensuring tight security, uninterrupted supply of electricity to all Puja Mandaps and smooth traffic management for peaceful celebration of Puja at that time.
‘We have started collection of information about Puja Mandaps from our eight police stations in the city. We will informed about our preparations through meetings with different stakeholders including leaders of Puja Udjapon Parishad at the SMP headquarters very soon,’ he said.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sylhet District Md. Forid Uddin said that full-proof security measures will be taken at each of the temple of the district from next week.
A team of police along with Ansar members would be deployed to all the Puja Mandaps during the festival, he added.
