DU to felicitate pioneers of Mongol Shovajatra

Dhaka University (DU) will felicitate the pioneer oganisers of traditional Mongol Shovajatra in the premises of Fine Arts faculty.
A festival entitled “Eso Gahi Mongoler Jaygan”, hailing the UNESCO’s recognition of Mongol Shovajatra, will be held at Bakul Tala on Fine Arts faculty premises at Dhaka University (DU) campus today.
The personality and institutions, who were involved in the inception of the Mongol Shovajatra, will be accorded reception at the function, a DU press release said.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique will present mementos while President of Bangladesh Charushilpi Sangsad, noted artist Mustafa Monowar and Professor of Drawing and Painting department Rafiqun Nabi will present the shawls to the pioneers of the Shovajatra.
Mongol Shovajatra, a ceremonial walk organised on the first morning of Bangla New Year, got recognition as an element of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO`S Inter-governmental Committee on Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage.
