DU Bangabandhu Hall’s ‘guestroom torture’ increasing alarmingly

Guestroom torture has been increasing alarmingly at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of Dhaka University.
Students of the hall say that after formatin of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Hall committee, torture over first and second year students increased.
Moerover, a second-year student of the Criminology Department of Dhaka University was allegedly bullied and mentally tortured by some third-years students of BCL activist in the 201 room of Bangabandhu Hall on Thursday night.
Around 10.00 pm, Abu Taleb was summoned to the room by some third-year students. At the stage of mental torturing, they impart forcedly a cigarette in his mouth and were forced to smoke without holding it by hand and smoke the whole cigarette without leaving smoke by mouth.
The accused students are Sheikh Shant Alam of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, Imdadul Haque Bandhon of the Islamic History
and Culture department, Shahabuddin Islam of the Information Science and Library Management department and Nahidul Islam of the Law department. They are students of the 2018-19 academic session.
However, the students who were accused of torturing rejected the charge.
Earlier, on March 1 and 3, three second-year students were thrown out of the hall for being inattentive in the daily political programmes of BCL.
Some second-year students said, at least 10 students of their classmates had left the hall failing to endure the BCL’s torture. They informed that Room No. 301(a) has been locked by BCL activists despite their examinations.
Hall Provost Prof Md Akram Hossain said, “We have heard the matter, we are looking into the matter. Moreover, there are no specific allegations. No decision can be taken based on floating allegations.”
