Rape, killing in running bus: Driver, superviser confess guilt

The driver and supervisor of Chhoya Paribahan have confessed their involvement in the gang rape and killing of a college girl in a running bus in Tangail.
Habibur Rahman and Safar Ali alias Gendu gave their confessional statements under the section 164 before Tangail judicial magistrates on Wednesday afternoon, according our correspondent in the district.
Three senior judicial magistrates in Tangail recorded their confessions. Another helper, Liton Mia, testified as a witness, said Modhupur police’s Sub-Inspector Quayium Khan Chowdhury.

Police earlier sent them to courts for recording their confessional statement.
Habib and Safar Ali were sent to jail after their statements were recorded, added Quayium.
On Tuesday, the bus driver’s assistant Akram and two others Shamim and Jahangir gave confessional statements before three Tangail judicial magistrates over the incident.
“All them are behinds bars now,” said Quayium.
Police arrested them in connection with the rape and murder of the girl.
The girl, who was found dead beside the Tangail-Mymensigh road on Friday night and later buried as unidentified by police at Tangail central graveyard, was killed after gang rape on a running bus on the way from Sirajganj to Mymensingh, police said on Tuesday.
The victim’s family confirmed her identity after seeing photographs at Madhupur police station of Tangail on Monday night.
The brother of the victim, hailed from Tarash in Sirajganj, said her sister completed master’s in political science from Govt Azizul Huq College in Bogra and was studying LLB at Ideal Law College in Dhaka. Besides, she worked at a multinational company’s quality control section and was stationed in Mymensingh.
On Friday night, she was going to her workplace from Sirajganj on a bus of Choya Paribahan after attending examination for teachers’ registration in Bogra, said the brother.
During interrogation, the alleged culprits admitted to killing her after gang-rape and throwing away the body from running bus near Pachish Mile in Madhupur, said Madhupur police officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam.
Shafiqul said police found the body around 11:30pm on Friday and they filed a murder case.
After identification, the victim’s brother also filed another case against five people including the driver and the superviser of Chhoya Paribahan, he said.
The victim’s brother said her sister had headed for Mymensingh with a colleague and the colleague got off at Elenga of Tangail. As the victim did not reach Mymensingh in time, they phoned her and it was received by a man who said the owner of the phone left it somewhere. Later, the family had filed a general diary with Mymensingh police.
Police yesterday recovered the girl’s cell phone and her bag from the spot where she was thrown.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased filed an application to Tangail police for taking her body from Tangail graveyard to their village.
