Face-to-face questioning: Dr Sabrina, Arif blame each other for fraudulence

DB police on Thursday brought JKG Healthcare chief executive officer Ariful Chowdhury face-to-face with his wife Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, also the chairman of the company, and questioned them.
During questioning, the couple confessed issuing of fake coronavirus certificates by JKG, but they blamed each other for the misdeeds.
According to the sources, Arif claimed that he got involved in the malpractice because of Sabrina while Sabrina divulged information that many more officials of the JKG and Oval Groups were involved in the fraudulence.
Seven other directors of Sabrina and Arif’s Oval Group are expected to be interrogated in this regard shortly, the sources added.
Additional Commissioner (DB) of the DMP Md. Abdul Baten told media that Arif was put on a four-day remand by a Dhaka court on Wednesday. The couple was interrogated on Thursday face-to-face, he added. “Both of the accused confessed to DB police about issuing fake report of coronavirus. But, blamed each other for their deceptive acts,” said the official.
During initial investigation, it was learnt that JKG swindled a huge amount of money through its telemedicine services. Probe to be done to discover where the money has gone, he added. On June 23, Tejgaon police detained six people including Arif over allegations of issuing fake coronavirus certificates and collecting money from patients.
Police, however, arrested Dr Sabrina on July 12 following an interrogation at the office of Tejgaon deputy commissioner of DMP.
Later in the day, she was also suspended from her post as a registrar physician at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Hospital.
On Wednesday, Arif Chowdhury was placed on a four-day remand in a case filed over deceiving people by giving false coronavirus test reports.
Besides, Dr Sabrina was put on a three-day remand by a court on Monday.
