8 killed in road crashes

At least eight motorcyclists were reportedly killed in separate road acciudents in Rajshahi, Madaripur and Gazipur districts in last 12 hours since early Friday.
The bodies were sent to hospital morgues for autopsies, Police said.
In Rajshahi, four persons died in three separate road accidents in Puthia, Godagari and Charghat upazilas.
Two of the deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam, 50, son of one Yunus Ali resident of Chauddapai area of Rajshahi city; Jewel Rana, 27, son of one Azam Ali from Faridpur village of Godagari upazila.
Rajshahi Puthia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sayedur Rahman Bhuiyan said that deceased Nazrul was an employee of Rajshahi University. The accident took place on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway as a truck hit the motorcycle which he and his friend were traveling towards Rajshahi. Nazrul died on the spot and his injured companion were taken to hospital.
On the other hand, Godagari Police Station OC Hipzur Alam Munshi said poultry trader Jewel died when a truck hit his motorbike while he was returning home after offering prayer in a local mosque.
Rajshahi Charghat Police Station OC Nibaran Chandra Barmon said that two motorcyclists were killed as a sandladen truck rammed their motorbike in Baneswar area. They identities could not be known yet; however, hailing from Natore’s Kanaikhali area. The deceased were identified as Jesmin, 40, and Saba Moni, 12.
In Gazipur, two motorcyclists were killed while a leguna thrashed them on Modhumoti Road in Tongi area, leaving them dead on the spot at around 5:00pm, said Turag Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahmudul Hasan.
The deceased could not be identified immediately, the police official said.
In Madaripur, two motorcyclists died when a Barisal bound passenger bus struck them from behind on the Dhaka Khulna Highway at Panchchar of Shibchar around 5:00pm, said Zakir Hossain, OC of the Shibchar police.
The deceased were not identified immediately, the OC said.
