The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has announced its new committee for the Chittagong University unit with murder suspect Alamgir Tipu as President.
Fazle Rabbi Sujan has been made the General Secretary, a BCL statement said on Monday.
BCL President Badiuzzaman Sohag and General Secretary Siddiqui Nazmul Alam jointly signed the statement.
Tipu and Sujan are reportedly supporters of two most influential Awami League leaders of the port city – the party’s city unit General Secretary and city Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin and President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury respectively.
Student of economics, Tipu is accused in a case of twin murders in Chittagong’s CRB area following a clash between the ruling party affiliates Juba League and BCL over a railway tender bid on June 24, 2013.
A local boy, Arman Hossain, 8, and Juba League activist Saju Palit were killed in the incident.
Tipu was arrested from the scene but was later released on bail.
BCL CU unit’s new General Secretary Sujan is a student of finance and banking.
Earlier, BCL formed its CU unit committee in June 2011 with Mamunul Haq as president and MA Khaled Chowdhury as general secretary.
The committee was disbanded in June last year due to internal conflicts.
