State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Monday said the government is working to build a startup ecosystem in the country by keeping a three-layered pyramid structure in mind.
“The innovators will be on top of the structure. They might be few in number but will make great contribution in country’s IT industry. Achievers will be in second position, followed by people involved in small sectors like freelancing. That is how we are working to build a unique venture capital ecosystem,” Palak said.
The state-minister came up with the observations while addressing a roundtable discussion titled “Creating a Venture Capital Ecosystem: Government’s Role” as chief guest at Software Technology Park in capital’s Janata Tower.
Chaired by ICT Division Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder, the discussion was addressed by Tina Jabin, consultant of San Francisco-based CPA Venture, chairman of Board of Trustees of Bangladesh University Jamil Azhar, director general of Department of Information & Communication Technology Banamali Bhowmick, among others.
“We want the experts to tell us what to do for building startup ecosystem and innovation culture in the country. We want the private sectors to tell the government about the benefits they want from it for their growth. That is why we have invited the experts and private sectors here,” Palak added.
Dr Mahmud Hossain of San Francisco State University presented keynote paper on things to do for building venture capital ecosystem and best practices around the world regarding the matter.
