The High Court on Sunday ordered the Bangladesh Bank and other banks not to allow the loan defaulters to take out fresh credit for one more month or till dispose of the writ petition filed with the court in this regard.
The HC Bench of Justice J B M Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order after hearing on a new petition filed in this regard by a rights organisation, Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
Earlier on August 29, 2019, the same HC Bench barred on fresh borrowing for the loan defaulters till October 20.
Advocate Manzill Murshid appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner while Barrister Shameem Khaled and Advocate Munirujjaman stood for the Bangladesh Bank.
After the court order, lawyer Manzill said, “The Supreme Court on July 8 barred fresh borrowing for the loan defaulters for two months. On August 29, the HC Bench of Justice J B M Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam extended the time till October 20 and the same HC Bench again extended this period for next one month or till dispose of the writ petition which comes first.”
Meanwhile, the hearing continues in the same HC Bench on a Bangladesh Bank circular that allowed defaulters to reschedule their loans with a repayment period for 10 years..
Advocate Manzill Murshid placed submission in the court yesterday. After his submission, the court adjourned the hearing till today (Monday) 2.00pm.
Advocate Shah Monjurul Hoque was also present in the court for Bangladesh Association of Banks’ (BAB).
