A doctor has alleged he was physically assaulted by a few employees of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) where he was to appear for a viva voce. This was for the position of assistant professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology, on Sunday.
Dr SM Abdul Alim, a consultant of Anaesthesiology, Rajarbagh Police Hospital, told bdnews24.com that a few doctors of BSMMU beat him up in a room at the hospital. “A few medical officers of that department whisked me away from the doors of the exam hall to a room and locked me up. I could not attend the exam.”
The university authorities later rescued him, Alim claimed.
BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Kamrul Hasan Khan denied the allegation of assault but said that the exam had been postponed. “Some students questioned the identity of the applicants,” Khan said.
Requesting anonymity, a senior official told bdnews24.com, “The university officials had an urgent meeting after an examinee failed to appear for the viva.” Shahbagh Police Station OC Abu Bakar told bdnews24.com that the police was investigating the allegations.
