The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) on Thursday launched a campaign against drugs across the country to protect the next generation from the threat, said its Director General (DG) Jamal Uddin Ahmed.
As per the strategy, all TV channels and radios will telecast the slogans
“love life, stay away from drugs” at 8:50pm yesterday, he said.
The campaign was decided on Wednesday in an inter-ministry meeting with State Minister for Information Tarana Halim in the chair, the DG said while speaking at a press conference at DNC headquarters in Dhaka.
He said, DNC officials conducted 39,585 drives against drug traders across the country last year with a view to reducing drug supply.
A total of 11,612 cases have been filed against the 12,651 arrested drug criminals, said Jamal Uddin.
Nearly 25,355 patients have been given treatment from 213 centers, including four of the DNC, for rehabilitation of drug addicts last year, he added.
Replying to a question, the DNC chief said the department will take necessary action against inter-departmental officials who are involved in these crimes.
Meanwhile, the DNC officials detained three persons, including wife of a police officer with 10,000 pieces of contraband yaba in the city’s Banasree on Thursday.
The detainees are Kulsum, 27, Tahmina Akter, 25, and Palash Chandra Das, said Khorshid Alam, Assistant Director of the DNC.
Tahmina claimed that her husband is an Inspector of a Special Branch (SB) of Police, the DNC official said.
