Isolated terrorist attack may be launched anytime anywhere in the country, senior police official said.
“We do believe that militants are not capable to launch any deadly attack. But isolated terrorist attack may be launched anytime anywhere,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah yesterday said.
He came up with this remark while addressing a programme organised to give financial support to the families of police officers killed in Gulshan attack on July 1, at DMP Headquarters in the city.
He also said the possibilities of isolated attacks cannot be ruled out.
“Terrorist and militants do not belong to any society or religion. They are the enemies of humanity. Hence, we cannot assure that they will not launch any attacks,” the DMP Chief said.
Replying to a query, he said the investigation into the July 1 Gulshan terror attack is going on.
“We have collected enough evidence and chargesheet will be placed in time,” he said.
He added that the third militant who fled during Mohammadpur raid could not be identified. “Detectives are trying to identify him.”
Two most wanted militants of the Neo JMB group, including alleged Gulshan terror attacks operational commander Marjan, were killed in an alleged gunfight with police on January 6. The attack on Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan killed 24 people, including two police officials and 17 foreigners, on July 1, 2016.
