Diversified use of bamboos can be boon to economy

Diversified use of bamboos can be a boon not only to national economy but also to artisans, farmers and especially to consumers throughout the globe as they are inclining to commodities made of natural components leaving behind chemical or artificial things.
Bamboos also help to keep ecology balanced as it absorbs greenhouse gas like carbon di oxide and releases 35% more oxygen than equivalent hardwood and purifies underground water.
Speakers narrated their observations in a workshop held yesterday at local Diabetic Hospital Hall Room under title ‘Policy information and dissemination of production, marketing, utilization and appreciation of diversified bamboo products’ as local non government organization (NGO) BRIF (Bangladesh Rural Improvement Foundation) organised it.
Shah Ahsan Habib, Executive Director of BRIF also, president of the ceremony read out key note paper while Amalendu Barman, Advisor of foreign NGO Mukti India was present as chief guest.
Shah Ahsan Habib in his speech said that SAARC Development Fund (SDF), a component of South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) provides financial support for a project promoting diversified use of bamboos in 7 upazilas of Nilphamari and Dinajpur districts.
He informed that they had conducted survey in the area and found 1,861 bamboo artisans including 807 female to provide them with skill development training to conduct production and marketing activities from two separate points called common facilitation centers (CFC).
NGO BRIF after discussion with local chamber, BSCIC, forest department experts, bank officials and the beneficiaries likely to formulate strategies for diversified bamboo production, marketing and promotion across Bangladesh and abroad, he added.
Bank loan for small and medium entrepreneurs (SME) with very little interest will also be arranged for the artisans as the NGO staffs mediate with banks.
We transfer technology to artisans to process the bamboos and make market promotion through trade fairs, showrooms and online web portal for global market promotion, BRIF chief added.
Amalendu Barman, in his speech as chief guest said that most magnificent resorts in tourism based country Maldives now made of artistic designed bamboos and in Nepal after last year’s severe earth quake hundreds beautiful educational institutions and households are being made of designed bamboos and bamboo slates.
Bamboos are environment friendly too as absorb carbon di oxide and release 35% more oxygen that equivalent woody trees and their roots sucks impurities from underground water, he said.
Among others present in the meeting were Nusrat Fatima, Deputy Director of District Social Welfare Department, Hosne Ara Khatun, Deputy Manager of BSCIC, Rafiqul Alam Mridha, Area Manager of Grameen bank, Jatindra Chandra Barman, Zonal Manager of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank along with journalists and other dignitaries.
