Distribution of agri-input assistance cards progressing fast in Gaibandha

Distribution of Agriculture Input Assistance Cards (AIACs) to farmers of the district has been progressing fast amid much enthusiasm.
Official sources said the government took an initiative for distribution of AIACs to the farmers across the country this year. The officials of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) were given the responsibility to implement the scheme.
Accordingly, like other districts of the country the officials of DAE here prepared more than 6.54 lakh AIACs for the farmers of all the seven upazilas of Gaibandha district.
To pay agri subsidy and provide a number of benefits including cash intensive, seed, fertilizer and fuel to the farmers directly is the objective of the card distribution, said an official of DAE.
To know the actual number of the farmers and the quantity of their land including arable one is another objective of the scheme side by side with increasing productivity and reducing fraud, he also said.
The cards were being issued to the farmers after taking back old ones from them, sources said adding that the card distribution activity was going on in full swing in the district.
Sub assistant agriculture officer of Kamarjani block of Sadar upazila Mokbul Hossain said the farmers were happy to get the cards as it would assist them to get all types of agri subsidy and benefits provided by the government.
Deputy Director (DD) of DAE Mir Abdur Razzak said the cards would also help the farmers get financial assistance from the commercial banks.
