Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down

Stock markets closed on Tuesday of the week with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors were engineering, tannery industry, fuel and power and pharmaceutical and chemical. A total of 146 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 13.93 points down at 5,968.02. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 3.25 points down at 1,321.59 and with 1.31 points down at 2,173.20.
The daily trade fell to 12.27 crore shares from Monday’s 13.34 crore shares. But the day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 536.07 crore from Taka 523.26 crore of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 332 securities, prices of 105 securities closed higher against 187 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Monno Ceramics, Fine Foods, Safko Spinning, Monno Jute Stafler and Central Insurance while the major losing companies were Kay and Que, Samata Leather, BD Welding, ACI Formulation and PLFSL.
BRAC Bank topped the turnover list followed by Lanka Bangla Finance, GP, Ifad Autos and Rangpur Foundry. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 51.14 points down at 18,501.63.
At CSE, 241 issues were traded. Of those, 65 closed higher and 143 closed lower when 1.86 crore shares worth Taka 127.89 crore changed hands.
