11th National Parliamentary election: Dipu Moni, MK Alamgir elected MPs for 3rd time, Maj Retd Rafique for 4th time

A lady MP candidate Dr Dipu Moni, (daughter of 52’s language veteran MA Wadud) has been elected Member of Parliament for the 3rd consecutive times, a rare incident in the political history of Chandpur district since British period and Bangladesh’s independence-according to many veteran politically -conscious people like 1952’s language veteran Dr MA Ghafur, Prof Mohammad Hossain Khan- former head of the Dept of Political Science in Chandpur Govt College and some other political veterans.
 Another example is that Dr Dipu Moni has polled the highest number of 304812 votes, outshining all other four AL MPs, just- elected this time in all the five seats in the district. Her nearest BNP rival candidate Sk Farid Ahmed Manik has polled 35501 votes.
Of the four male MPs, AL candidate for Chandpur -4- Constituency (Hajiganj-Shahrasti) Major Rtd Rafiqul Islam, Bir Uttam, has been elected MP for the 4th time. He has polled 298104 votes while his nearest rival BNP candidate Mominul Huque has polled 3656 votes.
AL candidate , former Home Minister and bureaucrat Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir of Chandpur-1- Kochua, Constituency has been elected MP for 3rd time polling 196844 votes while his nearest rival BNP candidate Mosharraf Hossain has polled 30799 votes.
 In Chandpur -2 -(Matlab Dakhshin + Uttar Upazilas) Constituency, AL candidate Nurul Amin Ruhul and in Chandpur -4 Constituency, Faridganj, AL candidate renowned journalist Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman have been elected MPs for the 1st time in their long political careers.
In Chandpur -2, (Matlab) seat, AL central leader Nurul Amin Ruhul has polled 296315 votes while his nearest BNP rival candidate Dr Jalaluddin has polled 10239 votes.
On the other hand, in Chandpur-4, Faridganj, Seat, Shafiqur Rahman has polled 173379 votes while his nearest rival BNP candidate Harun- or- Rashid has polled 30799 votes. In Bangladesh, this time, Shafiqur Rahman is the only journalist to have been elected MP this time among all the elected MPs.
It may be noted here that a total of 35 candidates including BNP contested in five seats in the district in the national poll on 30 December, that ended amid sporadic clashes and snatching of ballot boxes. On duty Police, Executive Magistrates, BGB members and army men at once brought the situation under control.
