The BNP on Wednesday said the dialogue between the Jatiya Oikyafront and the government about the national election would never be fruitful as BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is in jail.
“The people have seen that the ruling party is holding dialogue with the Jatiya Oikyafront on the one hand, the jail term of Khaleda Zia was extended on the other hand. It is totally contradictory. It may not help the dialogue and the next general election becoming fruitful,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said it while addressing a human chain in front of the National Press Club in the capital.
The BNP leader said extending Khaleda Zia’s jail term did not prove the government’s honesty about dialogue with opposition parties’.
The one hour human chain led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir ended around 11:55am which began at 11:00am.
Mirza Fakhrul said, the government has kept Khaleda Zia in jail by filing false cases to keep her away from politics.
“The government have not release our party chief even after getting bail from the court. They kept her in jail by filing fabricated cases one after another. It is but their political vengeance only,” BNP Secretary General said.
He asked the government to accept the Jatiya Oikyafront’s seven points demands at all.
“The government must quit, the Parliament must be dissolved before the polls and Begum Khaleda Zia and other political leaders must be freed from jail,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said, “The government wants to hold polls again without Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman. But we shall not allow that.”
He said, the government must accept seven points demands relating to a free, fair and inclusive polls.
“If the government ignores the seven points demands, the government will be responsible if any anarchy takes place any way,” Dr. Mosharraf said.
Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed said that the discussions in the dialogue would include seven points demands.
He said that the BNP’s peaceful and constitutional movement got success and that is why the government would sit with the Oikyafront today to mitigate distrust about election.
Leaders and activists of BNP and its front and associate organisations joined the programme with banners and festoons.
They chanted slogans demanding Khaleda Zia’s immediate release and inclusive polls under neutral government.
