Dhaka needs to implement master plan: Minister

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam on Thursday said the Dhaka City Master Plan would have to be implemented to make the city livable.
“If the Dhaka Metropolitan Development Plan (DMDP) comes into operation, then coordination among the entire development authorities in the city would be easier… and the city would be livable for the people, said the minster while addressing a seminar on “Pathways to Transform Metro Dhaka into a Livable, Prosperous and Resilient Mega City” at a city hotel.
Tajul said different city development activities like drinking water and waste management, sewerage and water treatment are very much challenging, adding that “all these development works would be integrated if the master plan comes into effect.”
“Then the city would be more developed in phases,” he told the seminar arranged by the World Bank.
The country is now progressing toward development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said. “We have to do more work to make the development activities uninterrupted,” he added, said a press release.
Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor M Atiqul Islam, World Bank Country Director Mercy Miyang Tembon, Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy and Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Jahangir Alam participated in the panel discussion. BRAC Chairman and Power and Participation Research Center Executive Chairman Hossein Zillur Rahman moderated the function.
