Wealth case: Destiny chairman jailed for 3 years

A Dhaka Court on Wednesday sentenced Chairman of Destiny-2000 Limited Mohammad Hossain to three years’ imprisonment for not submitting wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Dhaka also fined him Tk 60,000 in default of which he will have to serve three months more in jail. Mohammad Hossain was present at the courtroom when the judge delivered the verdict.
Earlier, the court recorded statements of five prosecution witnesses including the complainant of the case.
ACC lawyer Mahmud Hossain Jahangir said, the Anti-Corruption commission filed a case against Chairman of Destiny 2000 Limited Mohammad Hossain for not submitting wealth statement. The court sentenced him as the charge was proved.
Case documents said, the ACC noticed Mohammad Hossain on June 16 in 2016 to submit his wealth statement. At that time, he was in jail being arrested in another case. He did not submit his wealth statement though he accepted the notice by his lawyer.
Then Salah Uddin, Assistant Director of the ACC, filed a case against Mohammad Hossain with the Ramna Police Station on September 8 in 2016. The ACC submitted the charge-sheet in the court on June 6 in 2017 in this case. The court took the charge into its cognizance and framed the charge against the accused on October 15 in 2017. Then the court recorded statements of five prosecution witnesses including the complainant of the case and delivered the judgment yesterday.
