Staff Reporter :
Manikganj district correspondent of private-run Desh TV went missing for the last 11 days, family sources said.
Obaidur Rahman, 48, also a member of Manikganj’s Ghior upazila unit of Bangladesh Krishak Samity, went missing from Jessore on February 15, said Nazrul Islam, the organisation’s general secretary.
He said that Obaidur, son of Tamez Uddin of Kahetara village, along with other krishak leaders from Manikganj went to Khulna on February 14 to attend the National Conference of Bangladesh Krishak Samity there. While returning from Khulna on February 15, their bus stopped at a petrol pump near Jessore’s Manihar Cinema Hall around 11:00pm. Obaidur got off the bus and remained traceless since then, Nazrul said.
“I talked with Obaidur around 11:00am on February 16 but he could not say anything about his whereabouts,” Sakhina Sultana Ranu, wife of the journalist told reporters.
Since then, his mobile phone is also found switched off, she said.
As per the suggestion of Manikganj police, Obaidur’s family members will go to Jessore for registering a general diary there as Obaidul went “missing” from the district.
Mahfuzur Rahman, Superintendent of police of Manikganj, told our correspondent that he had already requested the superintendent of Jessore to take necessary steps in this regard.
