Death toll reaches 29: 8,765 under treatment: DGHS

The authorities have confirmed another six deaths from dengue fever, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country since January to 29, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported Thursday.
 The deaths include two in April, three in June, 15 in July and nine in August.
The number of people hospitalised with dengue across Bangladesh so far this year has reached a record 34,666 with one more becoming the latest fatalities on Thursday.
However, a total of 8,765 dengue patients were undergoing treatment on Thursday, according to the DGHS report.
Of them, 5,140 were admitted in the government and private hospitals in Dhaka and 3,625 in across the country.
On Thursday, about 2,326 new dengue cases were reported across the country as the mosquito-borne disease continues to take its toll on the people.
Besides, Khaleda Akther, a postgraduate student of Government Ainuddin College in Faridpur, died of dengue at a hospital in Dhaka on Thursday morning.
The deceased was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital three days back with dengue fever. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to a city’s hospital where she passed away around 8:30am on Thursday.
With this death, the unofficial dengue death toll climbed to 69 as of Thursday.
