A student of Zoology Department at University of Dhaka reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his room in his residence of Mohammadpur area in city on Sunday morning.
The victim was identified as Touhidul Islam Siam, 22, son of one Rafiqul Islam.
According to family sources, the victim was a third-year student of the Zoology Department of the university.
The student’s uncle Mukul Hossain told the media that Siam went to sleep alone in his room at night. The door was not opening after calling in the morning.
Finally after breaking the door, he was seen hanging with a ceiling fan. However, his uncle could not say why Siam committed suicide.
Siam was buried in Keraniganj in the evening, uncle added.
DU Zoology Department Chairman Dr Niamul Naser confirmed the matter to media.
“We are very shocked to hear the death news. Siam was a very bright student. The reason behind his suicide could not be known immediately,” Dr Naimul added.
