UNB, Dhaka :
The 29th death anniversary of Dr Aleem-Al Razee, a renowned educationist and pioneer of posthumous eye-donation in Bangladesh, will be observed on March 15 (Saturday).
Dr Razee made a commitment to bequeath his eyes after his death to the visually-impaired persons
so that they could marvel at the world’ s scenic beauty and shining glory while at the same time earn a livelihood for themselves and their families.
Accordingly, two visually-impaired persons regained their eyesight following the transplantation of Dr Razee’s corneas on their eyes, says a press release of Sandhani National Eye Donation Society.
Steeped deeply in liberal Islamic religious values, Dr Razee had a profound knowledge in Arabic and Persian languages.
President of Sandhani National Eye Donation Society Prof Dr Ali Asgar Moral and its secretary general Prof Dr Abul Khair M Salek have appealed to the public in all walks of life to come forward and follow the footsteps of Dr Razee in donating their eyes posthumously to countless blinds in the country to restore their eyesight.
It may be mentioned that the number of committed donors in Bangladesh remain extremely low in comparison with the needs of the sightless people.
