Cultural evening held to raise funds for burnt victims

A cultural evening with dazzling performance by noted singers, artistes as well as doctors was held in the city’s Diploma Engineers’ Institute on Friday night to raise funds for helping burn victims and poor patients. Singers and doctors entertained packed audience of the auditorium of the institute rendering patriotic, folk and romantic songs. The audience enjoyed the mellifluous rendition of the songs with rapt attention.
A wonderful magic show with a massage of peace and love was displayed to inspire the people to extend their helping hands for building a peaceful society.
With giving an extra-attraction, renowned dancers performed excellently with their creative dances at the cultural evening to keep the audience captivated.
Save Life Foundation and Gift Life Foundation jointly organized the cultural programme to generate money for supporting arson victims and poor patients.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Chief Advisor of Save Life Foundation and Gift Life Foundation National Professor Dr MR Khan, former chairman of BTRC Margub Morhsed, Advisor of Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Dr Samata Lal Sen, specialist doctors, senior government officials and dignitaries, among others, addressed the cultural programme.
Film Actor Nirob and Convenor of Save Life Foundation and Gift Life Foundation Dr Sohely Ahmed Sweety jointly presented the cultural evening.
At the beginning of the function, Dr Tanveer Ahmed of Department of Plastic Surgery and Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital made a presentation on burn victims, who were attacked by petrol bombs during blockades and hartals called by the 20-party alliance.
On the occasion, Mozammel Haque said, “We are hurt hearing the hue and cry of arson victims at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. We all should stand beside the patients of burn injuries and their families to remove their woes and sufferings”. The initiatives of arranging cultural evening to raise money for burn victims and poor patients will inspire the entire society to promote humanitarian activities, he added.
In his presentation, Dr Tanveer said a total of 127 burn victims were admitted to the Burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital during the countrywide blockade and hartal called by BNP-led alliance this year. Of the burn patients who were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, nine succumbed to their injuries and six are at ICU in critical conditions, he added.
At their brief speeches at the function, doctors, officials and cultural personalities raised their voices against barbaric arson attacks on innocent people during blockade and hartal. Hating the heinous petrol bomb attacks on innocent people, they said all people should immediately be united to resist the petrol bomb attackers to ensure safe movement of people. The speakers urged the people of all levels to extend their helping hands to serve the disadvantaged people by getting involved in the humanitarian programmes.
At the cultural evening, the singers and artistes who performed in the cultural evening are Abdul Zabbar, Farida Parvin, Yasmin Mustari, SD Rubel and Akhi Alamgir.
