CU to probe allegation against Chair of English Dept.

A female student of Masters evening programme of Cumilla University filed a written complaint against a teacher for harassing her sexually as well as for destroying all the proofs she had on her mobile in favor of her allegation.
The accused teacher has been outed as Dr Ali Rezwan Talukder, the head of the university’s English Department.
Dr Habibur Rahman, director of CU’s Evening Masters Programme, said he received a written complaint from a female student over the incident. “We’ll look into it and decide what to do,” he added.
According to the allegation, the student sat for an examination on January 13 that was held from at 5pm to 8:30pm. For this duration, her mobile was at the front of the desk she was giving her exam at.
Going out of the exam centre, she found her mobile sim card and memory card were changed, she alleged against the department’s head.
She also wrote in her allegation that Dr Ali took her mobile number and they had a connection on social media. Ali used to call her to go to his room and proposed her for illegal relation in exchange of giving her good marks in the examination.
All the proofs of these allegations were saved in the mobile phone were destroyed, she alleged.
Contacted, Dr Ali Rezwan said the student was ‘mentally imbalanced’, and she was the one who wanted illicit relationship in return for academic favours, but he never responded to her call.
“Failing to get facilities, she has been spreading this information against me,” said Dr Ali, adding: “I’m embarrassed.”
Contacted Dr Abu Taher, registrar of the university told UNB “We’ve taken the allegation into cognizance and attached it with the Vice Chancellor’s file.”
A probe body will be formed to look into the allegations , he said, adding that if they find immoral behavior on the part of the teacher, steps will be taken against him with no consideration for seniority or position.
