The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit’s Chief Monirul Islam has been made the head of a special branch (SB) of the police.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Monirul has been given the current charge of Additional Inspector General in SB.
Home Ministry’s Public Security Department Police Branch -1 issued the gazette notification on Sunday.
Monirul was promoted to DIG of Bangladesh Police on February 14, 2016.
He replaces of additional inspector general Mir Shahidul Islam as the head of SB.
Monirul Islam told in a press briefing about the security measure of Golden Jubilee of Independence and Mujib Borsho Celebrations on Sunday that the journey of CTTC started in February 2016. He has worked there last five years. Now the government thinks he actually … ‘will do better elsewhere’. That is why he has been transferred to the SB.
“I have worked with my colleagues for a long time; it is a kind of sadness to leave them. Now I will go to a new work place, it’s a pleasure to think about it. There are some similarities between the work of CTTC and SB,” he said.
Asked how he would assess the successes and failures of these five years, Monirul said that the work that the CTTC has done, especially after the Holey Artisan Café attack, has been very successful in suppressing militants and dismantling militant networks.
That achievement is not only my achievement. This achievement belongs to all those who have worked in my team, and also Bangladesh Police, he added.
