Chattogram Port earned Tk 3 thousand 585 crore in last one year. Out of this, excluding government VAT, taxes, cost of development projects, salaries and allowances of officials and employees, city corporation’s municipal tax, etc, the net income is 1 thousand 75 crores.
Earlier, the total income of the port in the financial year 2020-21 was Tk 3 thousand 70 crore 36 lakh. Out of this, the net income was Tk698 crore.
Port mainly Berth, Jetty Rent, Key Gantry Crane (QGC) Charge, Crane Charge, Port Deuce, Berthing Unberthing, Piloting Fee, Tugboat Rent, Water Supply to Vessel, Cargo Landing Charge, Shipping Charge, Removal Charge, Storage Charge, Terminal Charge, Staffing-unstaffing charges, electric charges, income in FDR sector, rent of port space and establishment etc. earn income in various sectors.
According to sources, in the financial year 2021-22, about 1 thousand 578 crore rupees have been spent on the development sector from the income of the port. About 576 crores of revenue has been given to the government. 42 crores have been given to the municipal sector of Chattogram City Corporation. About 180 crores have been spent on salaries and allowances.
Secretary of Chattogram Port Authority, Omar Farooqsaid that more profit has been achieved this year than other years. The profit earned will be spent on the development of the port. According to the government directives, the cost of procurement, repair and maintenance of the port has been reduced. Many projects including PCT, Bay Terminal, Matarbari are in progress. New equipment is being procured to increase the capacity of the port.
Chattogram Port is ranked 64th among the top 100 container handling ports in Lloyd’s List. Three steps ahead than the previous year. Container and cargo handling sustained growth at an average of 13 percent year-on-year growth. Chittagong Port is in a satisfactory position in implementing the ISPS Code. It increases the image of the port.
Around 32 lakh 55 thousand 358 TEUs of containers were handled in the main seaport of the country in the fiscal year 2021-22. In the previous financial year, 3,397,263 TEUs (20 feet units) of containers were handled. In the recent fiscal year, cargo handling at Chittagong Port was 11 crore 81 lakh 74 thousand 160 metric tons. At this time, 4 thousand 231 ships were handled.
