Chattogram journalists yesterday demanded closure of Max Hospital for alleged negligence in the treatment of a three-year-old girl who was suffering from cold and sore throat and later on died. The journalists also demanded exemplary punishment of the doctors for providing wrong treatment to girl and misbehaving with her relatives.
The demand was made at a protest rally held in front of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) with Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) President Nazimuddin Shyamol in the chair.
The rally conducted by CUJ General Secretary (GS) Hasan Ferdous, was addressed, among others, by Vice-President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Shahidul Alam, Joint Secretary of BFUJ Tapan Chakroborti, Chattogram south district AL General Secretary Mofizur Rahman, BFUJ member Ashif Siraj, CUJ Vice President Mohammad Ali, Joint Sectary of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) Chowdhury Farid, former CUJ presidents Mostaq Ahmed, Reaj Haider Chowdhury, CUJ leaders Sabur Shuvo, M Shamsul Islam, Ahmed Kutub, and former President of Chhatra League MES college unit Arshadul Alam Baccu.
The journalists also demanded submission of probe report within five days. The journalist leaders called another protest rally in front of Chattogram Shaheed Minar last afternoonl. The journalists alleged that the hospital was set up without any registration from the government.
The deceased was identified as Raifa Khan, daughter of Dainik Samokal Chattogram Bureau Senior Reporter Rubel Khan. Rubel Khan told t the New Nation that his daughter was admitted to Max Hospital on Thursday afternoon due to cold and throat ache. He alleged that the two-year-old child was killed due to malpractice at the private clinic.
Irregularities found at Max Hospital in preliminary probe: DGHS official: Max Hospital was operating without approval from the Directorate of Health Services (DGHS) and Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), said Health Services director for hospitals and clinics Kazi Jahangir Hossain on Sunday night.
“Various irregularities have been identified in primary investigation. The Max hospital authorities were running the hospital without permission from the DGHS and BMDC, he told reporters at Chattogram Press Club over death of minor girl Raifa Khan, 3, reportedly due to wrong treatment at the hospital.
“Steps will be taken soon in this regard,” he said.
Earlier, three Health Ministry officials -Kazi Jahangir Hossain, Sheikh Monjurul Rahman and Maksudul Rahman came to Max Hospital around 9pm for investigating the death of Raifa.
The team sat in a meeting with the Max hospital authority and journalist leaders at the conference room of the hospital. The journalist leaders alleged that BMA leaders and the hospital authority tried to obstruct the investigation and misbehaved with them in front of the government officials who came to investigate the incident.
Protesting their misconduct, the journalist leaders boycotted the meeting and staged demonstrations in front of the hospital for one and a half hours.
