Chattogram Bureau :
Customs officials are emphasising on the need to unload the chemicals at Chattogram port within 30 days of import and within 21 days of import at the airport. An emergency notification issued by Chittagong Customs on Tuesday stated that in accordance with sub-section-1 of section 62 of the Customs Act, 1989, customs clearance of goods imported through seaports within 30 days of landing at the port and within 21 days after landing at the airport or both. The redemption must be made by paying the duty tax within the additional period allowed by the authority. In particular, importers are not unloading their imported goods within the stipulated time. In this situation, it has been requested to expedite the unloading of all goods including chemical national goods through Chittagong Seaport, all private container depots and Shah Amanat International Airport under the jurisdiction of Chittagong Custom House.
Chittagong Customs House Deputy Commissioner (Preventive) Nur Uddin Milon said there is a rule that all types of goods can be unloaded within 30 days if imported through seaports and within 21 days if imported through airports.
But the importers did not unload the containers at the port. It is risky to leave different types of chemicals in Chittagong seaport and airport for a long time.
