Sand extraction random in Halda, fish breeding under threat

After a short break, illegal sand mining has resumed in Halda River. Natural fish breeding is under threat due to continuous extraction of sand with dredgers and power pumps.
Hathazari Upazila Administration conducted the operation on the basis of secret information. But the sand miners are not paying attention to this operation. Sand is being extracted in different parts of Halda river regularly Due to which the people concerned are seeing the possibility of various losses of Halda.
It is learned that sand is being extracted illegally from Halda river in three places of Nangalmora Union. The places are Nangalmora Bazar, Chaitaro Ghata and Chailda Gachatal
 Locals said that activists of a local leader named Altaf were extracting sand from different places in Halda at the instigation of the upazila chairman. When the upazila administration conducts operations in one place, they extract sand from another place There is no way to control them.
Hathazari UNO Shahidul Alam told that, “We have heard the matter.” We have regular campaigns. None of those who are trading sand at of Halda will be exempted. Whatever he is, he has to come under the law.
