CU Correspondent :
Police allegedly tore shirts of some activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Federation on the Chittagong University (CU) campus on Monday during their demonstration demanding resuming of the Battoli-CU campus shuttle train service.
It happened a day after Shahbagh police inspector Habil Hossain kicked a female protester on the Dhaka University campus on Sunday.
CU sources said that the authorities had stopped the train service from Battoli on 31 September for necessary
railway repairing work, but did not resume it despite the work was complete.
The federation activists staged sit-in programme in front of the office of the vice-chancellor Monday. The police asked them to shorten the programme and, at one stage, locked in an altercation with the federation activists.
There was a scuffle between them and police tore down shirts of some protesters while pushing away them from the spot. A Chhatra Federation press release said 10 students were injured in the incident.
Hathazari model police station officer-in-charge, however, said, “The protest programme created obstacle to normal work at the registrar’s office. So, we requested them to cut the programme short.
But we had to move them away as they refused to wind up the sit-in. Nothing else.”
