Fire on rally: Ctg College BCL factions demand arrest of attackers

A faction of Chittagong College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League on Wednesday demanded immediate arrest of the attackers who opened fire on them on July 31, leaving four persons injured. They also threatened to go for strike if their demand is not met by Sunday.
The BCL activists, who are known as followers of Chawkbazar unit Jubo League leader Nur Mostafa Tinu, organised a press conference at Chittagong Press Club to press home their demands. They said Chittagong city unit BCL mass education secretary Ismail Hossain Jibon, Mohsin College unit leader Mizanur Rahman, Chawkbazar thana unit BCL leaders Sourab Uddin Bappa and Imam Uddin were injured in the attack while they were holding an anti-militancy rally before the college. In his written statement, Dolon Chandra Dey, a master’s student of political science, claimed three attackers – including Mahmudul Karim, — backed by Chittagong city BCL general secretary Nurul Azim Rony have link with Jamaat-Shibir. On August 1, the BCL faction filed a case was accusing 11 named, including the three, and 20 to 25 unnamed persons.
To press their demand, the BCL faction will hand over a memorandum to the police commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police today, collect mass signature on Saturday and distribute leaflets on Sunday. Subash Mallick, a master’s student of botany, Moktar Hossain Razu of sociology, Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury Tutul of economic, and Sunny Das of honours fourth year of mathematics were, among others, present at the news conference.
