Cricketer Shahadat, his wife indicted

A court of Dhaka on Monday framed charges against cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife Jesmine Jahan Nitto in a case filed over torturing their 11-year-old domestic help.
Judge Tanzila Ismail of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka framed
charges againt the couple after hearing on Monday. Besides, the court decided to start recording the depositions of the witnesses in the case on March 20.
However, the couple claimed innocence and appealed for justice on the occasion. Shahadat and his wife were sued by journalist Khandaker Mozammel Haque on September 6 last year for torturing their domestic help. The couple was accused of inhumanely tormenting their domestic help Mahfuza Akhter Happy. She was found injured on a road in Sangbadik Colony area of Pallabi in the city. Immediately after the incident, the couple went into hiding. The case was filed with Mirpur Model Police Station. On September 13, last year, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suspended pacer Shahadat over the allegation.
Both the accused were taken into jail custody in the case. Later, suspended cricketer Shahadat secured bail from the High Court Division on December 8 citing health issues, while Nitto was granted bail on December 1 as she has a lactating baby.  
Inspector of the police station Shafiqur Rahman and also the Investigating Officer submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court on December 29.
