Head Coach of Bangladesh Cricket team Russell Domingo said on Friday, ” A cricketer must be fit to play Test cricket.”
Shakib Al Hasan returned to the country recently after passing his Eid-Ul-Fitr vacation in the United States of America. He was tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. Then, he was isolated at home. Later, he became negative for coronavirus test on Friday. As Shakib was tested negative for coronavirus, there was a slim chance that Shakib will take part in the first Test, which is scheduled to be held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from May 15.
Russell Domingo said, ” Any day and any time a team will need Shakib Al Hasan in their squad. But a cricketer, who is 50 to 60 percent fit, is tough to allow him to play a Test match. A cricketer must be cent percent fit to take part in Test match.”
Earlier, Domingo was tested positive for coronavirus. So, he has an experience about the suffering of Covid-19. He thinks if any body becomes fit from coronavirus before two day’s of a Test match, it is not so easy to take pressure to play Test cricket.
Domingo said, ” Test is a hard-working game. If anybody is out of practice, it will be tough task for a cricketer to play Test cricket. Shakib was out of practice and also out of cricket matches. I became positive for coronavirus test. I knew what kind of bad experience is a man who was hit by Covid-19. I didn’t get any strength in my body while I was suffering from coronavirus. Test cricket is different than ODI cricket or T20I cricket. The cricketer, who takes part in Test cricket, he should be in the field five to six hours, if it is needed. So, we have to consider those matters.”
Shakib Al Hasan went to Chattogram and joined the Bangladesh team. But Shakib’s participation in the first Test is totally depends on his fitness.
Russell said, ” Shakib have to pass in fitness Test. Shakib is really an ace player for us. He can bring balance for a team by his batting and bowling. We shall observe him. He spent two to three weeks out of cricket. If he shows his fitness tomorrow, we shall included him in our squad.
The Head Coach said, ” Mosaddek Hossain is in our consideration. If Shakib cannot play, Mosaddek will be the replacement of him.”
