BSS, Dhaka :
Cricket experts of the country urged the team management to take proper care of the young left arm pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana who grabbed the spotlight, taking 13 wickets in five matches including two four-wicket haul in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL).
The young pacer put up impressive performance to help his side Chattogram Challengers to lead the point table as this moment in the tournament. And he is performing in every match so consistently that the cricketer fraternity has already pinned high hopes on him.
But the country’s cricket experts said that it is not high time to expect too much on him rather he needs time to adapt and flourish.
Rana indeed made him apparent in the two high-scoring matches against Dhaka Platoon and Cumilla Warriors. Against those teams, Chattogram was in trouble despite scoring 200 plus total.
However Rana made breakthrough in crucial moment and conceded less than six runs per over to eclipse all. He also got two man-of-the-match awards in the tournament in which runs were made in abundance. And that spoke a volume of his ability.
“We need to give Rana more opportunity to play cricket because he needs to play a lot to adapt and flourish.” Former national left-arm pacer Monjurul Islam said here today.
“If you try to mix longer version cricket with T20 than that would be foolish,” he said. “If he can take the flavor of all the format than we can say where he stands but if you ask me to consider him only for the Twenty20 than I would say he had lot of promise,” he added.
“He is a young bowler and we need to give him time to adapt,” he said. Monjurul added that it is important to back any young bowler when he is going through a flow as that will allow him to express more freely than anything else.
“When a young bowler is going through a flow you need to back him as that will allow him to express him but if he doesn’t receive the required help then it will be difficult for him,” he opined.
Dhaka Platoon coach Mohammad Salahuddin however looked little bit annoyed with the buzz around the young pacer. “He has just started playing and it is not high time to judge his ability,” Salahuddin said. “Let him play more and then we can say what his actual ability is. At this moment he is going great. Now it’s our duty is to take a proper care of him so that he can flourish with full glory. He is a special talent that needs proper care,” he remarked.
