UNB, Gopalganj :
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Thursday said the main duty of the Election Commission is to create a congenial atmosphere so that all political parties can take part in polls.
“It’s not possible to say right now who will take part in the election and who won’t. But our efforts will be there to ensure all parties’ participation,” he said while talking to reporters after paying tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his majar at Tungipara.
Asked whether BNP will join the next general election, the CEC replied saying: “Don’t ask this question here. There’s no atmosphere of answering this question. For justified reasons, we have no mentality to talk over the issue.”
He, however, said he has already replied to this question several times while talking to the media.
Earlier in the day, the CEC along with four election commissioners-Mahbub Talukder, Md Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury-reached Tungipara at 11:45am to pay homage to Bangabandhu.
Later, they visited Bangabandhu Bhaban and signed the visitors’ book there.
