Dhaka’s Money Loan Court-1 (Artha Rin Adalat-1) on Sunday directed the authorities to publish gazette notification in newspaper summoning BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and three others in the case filed for the loan default of Dandy Dyeing Limited.
Judge Fatema Ferdous of the court yesterday (Sunday) also fixed May 17 to frame issue against 14 defendants of the case including Khaleda Zia. Earlier, on March 22, the court summoned Khaleda Zia, her late son Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman and his two daughters- Jahiya Rahman and Jafiya Rahman to appear to the court in the case on April 12.
Later, on March 25, these defendants of the case returned four summons, sent by the court. On March 16, the court made them defendants in the case following an application of Sonali Bank, the plaintiff of the case.
As Koko died in Malaysia on January 24, the court made the four people defendants in the case filed by state-owned Sonali Bank Limited over a loan default amounting to Tk 45.49 crores.
Other defendants in the case are Dandy Dyeing’s directors Tarique Rahman- Khaleda Zia’s elder son, Giasuddin Al Mamun and his wife Shahina Begum, late Sayeed Iskander’s wife Nasrin Iskander, her sons Shams Iskander Shafin Iskander, and daughter Sumaiya Iskander, Gazi Galib Abdus Sattar, Shamsun Nahar and Masud Hassan.
According to the case statement, on February 24, 1993, the original defendants applied for a loan of Tk 13.14 crore to Sonali B ank on behalf of Dandy Dyeing Limited. On May 9 of the same year, the bank sanctioned the loan.
