Country sees steepest single-day rise in Covid-19 cases

Bangladesh reported its highest-ever surge in coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours till Monday.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) registered 4,014 cases during the period. In total, the country has 141,801 confirmed cases.
Besides, 45 more Covid-19 patients died in the last 24 hours to take the death toll to 1,783.
This is the biggest jump in coronavirus cases in the country since the first three cases were reported on March 8. Previous highest 4,008 cases were registered in the country on June 17. With this, the daily coronavirus cases in the country crossed the 4,000 mark for the 2nd time.
DGHS Additional Director General Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.
She said 2,053 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 57,780. Prof Nasima said 17,837 samples were tested in 65 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 751,034 samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 22.50 percent while the infection rate 18.96 against total tests carried out so far, she said.
The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.75 while the mortality rate is 1.26 percent.
On Sunday, Bangladesh recorded 40 deaths from coronavirus and 3,809 cases.
