A councillor aspirant and two others have been arrested in Mymensingh’s Gafargaon over the murder of the mother of a municipal election rival.
Habibur Rahman, Inspector (investigation) at the Gafargaon Police Station, said they had nabbed them on Thursday night. According to police, Anisur Rahman, one of the arrestees, is a councillor candidate in Ward-3 under the Gafargaon municipality. Police, however, did not identify the two other arrested.
Rahman said, Rabeya Begum, the mother of councillor hopeful Azizul Islam, was killed in a clash
between the supporters of Anisur Rahman and Islam regarding the participation in a Victory Day rally on Dec 16.
Islam had filed a case accusing 30-35 people of the murder.
