Corona dead families face social harassment

The family of deceased in coronavirus across the country are faceing social harassment, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
On April 25, Abdur Rahim (not real name), who died in city’s Kurmitola General Hospital.
Fearing social upheaval, his family and friends did not want to be named.
Abdur Rahim’s sister said that her elder brother had died at Kurmitola General Hospital on April 25.
Then, when the dead bodies were taken in their village in Jamalpur for burial, no one from the village came to attend the janaza prayer and to bury.
She said, “No one came to dig graves for our deceased brother. Everyone thinks they will be infected with coronavirus if come here.”
Since there are no more male members in our family, we called Al Markazul Islam. A couple of hours later, a group of them came and offered janaza and buried my brother,” she said.
Rahim’s sister said, they saw another form of non-cooperation from the villagers after his brother was buried.
 “The villagers wanted to lock my brother’s wife and children in the house from outside inhumanely. They did not
allow any relative to enter our house,” she added.
 “Usually relatives give food to the decease family, but no one gives us food, and no one was allowed to bring food.”
 “My brother’s wife nor any of their children have symptoms of coronavirus. They were proved negative after test. But no one believes it in the village and no one talks to them,” she said.
Rahim’s family is now worried about what will happen to them when they return to Dhaka after performing social rituals.
