In observance of the 6th death anniversary of the reputed journalist of the country Gias Kamal Chowdhury, a discussion and Doa Mahfil was held in the port city at CMUJ Auditorium of October 26 last with Journo SM Jamaluddin in the chair.
Late Gias Kamal was former President of National Press club, President of BFUJ, member of Bangladesh Press Council, former renowned correspondent of Voice of America in Dhaka and central Advisor of Swadhin Sangbadpatra Pathak Samity .
Former city mayor and mass political leader Alhaj Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
Among others, former president of Anjumane Rahmania Maizbhandari Alhaj Md. Iqbal, former Vice president of BFUJ,former secretary Tax Bar Association Md. Musa, Secretary general of Central Eid Jamaat committee Principal Dr. Abdul Karim , Trade union leader Siddiqul Islam, General Secretary Gaffar Khan, CRU President Didar Ashrafi, Journalist Nazimuddin, were present on the occasion.
The chief guest on the occasion said Gias Kamal chowdhury was a neutral and impartial journalist and he sacrificed his life for the wellbeing of the media community before the emergence of Bangladesh. President of Pathak Samity SM Jamaluddin delivered his speech welcoming the presence and prayed for salvation of the departed soul of the journalist leader .
A Doa Mahfil followed by discussion was also arranged on the occasion, sources said.
