Kotwali thana police of CMP seized huge contraband cigarette consignment from Reazuddin bazaar area on Tuesday night .
The estimated cost of these seized cigarettes is about Tk.3 lakh, police sources said. Acting on secret information, Kotwali thana police conducted raid in the area and rounded up thre persons allegedly involved with the smuggling of these tobacco products.
These foreign brand cigarettes brought in Chittagong through different illegal ways.
The detained smugglers are Md. Belal, Md.Joynal and Khairul Amin. Kotwali Thana Inspector Nezamuddin told this reporter that these foreign brand cigars were seized from the market and the stockists could not show any legal documents against the import of the foreign brand cigar as such they seized .
Regular suit under smuggling act is being filed , sources said .Police sources said acting on secret tip-off, police conducted raid in Nazir Store, Belal Store, Bismillah Store and Sk Store in Reazuddin bazaar and seized 160 master cartoons of the contraband products.
The seized cigars consists of Marlboro, Bensons, Easy light, Orish Mond brands products . The detained persons are the staffs of these shops, police sources said.
