Consumers’ right protection for maintaining sound health emphasised

National Consumers’ Right Protection Department, CAB and Kishoreganj District Administration jointly arranged an advocacy meeting, seminar, colourfull rally, power presentation and postering marking the National Consumers’ Rights Protection Law- 2009 in the district on Wednesday.

 held at local collectorate conference on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas attended as chief guest while ADC (General) Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil presided over. It was addressed among others by CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, Jail Super Bazlur Rashid, Social Welfare Service D.D Mohammod Robiul Islam, Women Chamber President Fatematuz Zohora, Bara Bazar Marchent Association Secretary Osman Gani, CAB Secretary Monowar Hossain Rony, Chamber Director Paritush Paul, Akhter Hossain, CAB Acting President Senior Advocate Maya Bhowmik, Asstt. Professor Samiul Haque Mollah and Consumer Rights Protect Assistant Director Ibrahim Hossain.
Deputy Commission Md. Azimuddin Biswas emphasized the need for proper enforcement of the Consumers Rights Protection (CRP) Law for protecting the consumer’s rights together with freeing the human body from any food poisoning and other contaminations.
Expressing gratitude to the present government for enacting the law for the first time in the country he said the issue of the consumers rights is well accepted throughout the world and in the free market economy.
CAB Present Alam Sarowar Tito said that, the consumers rights in the developed nations focus on the right to information, choice, redness and representation.
A colourfully rally was brought out in the town led by Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Speakers at a seminar here yesterday emphasized the need for proper enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection (CRP) Law for protecting the consumers’ rights together with freeing the human body from any food poisoning and other contaminations.
Expressing gratitude to the present government for enacting the law for the first time in the country, they said the issue of the consumers’ rights is well accepted throughout the world and in the free market economy.
So, they said immediate step should be taken to start the enforcement activities alongside bringing all the businessmen and others concerned under the awareness program in this regard.
Department of National Consumer Rights Protection and District Administration jointly organized the seminar titled “Consumers Rights Protection Law, 2009” at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi.
Director (Operation and Laboratory) of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) Dr Shahadat Hossain addressed the seminar as chief guest with Ataul Gani, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), in the chair.
Superintendent of Police Syed Moazzem Hossain, Regional Director of BSTI Mourtoza Hossain Shah, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Parvej Raihan, Civil Surgeon Dr Ferdous Nilufar, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Muniruzzaman and local unit general secretary of Consumers Association of Bangladesh Golam Mostofa also spoke.
Assistant Director of DNCRP Apurba Adhikary welcomed the participants.
The speakers said the consumers’ rights in the developed nations focus on the right to information, choice, redress and representation, but we are deprived of such privileges.
Unsafe food has been adjudged as a major threat to public health in Bangladesh, so emphasis should be given on adopting effective measures in this regard, they added.
Junk food damages teeth and skin, spoils appetite and fattens the tissue, which leads to heart ailments and some other diseases, speakers said, adding that children should be kept away from junk foods to keep them in good health.
In this regard, they called for state control over the market for making it free from all sorts of manipulation, distortion, harassment and deception along with ensuring a healthy atmosphere in the market.
