UNB, Sylhet :
Coal import from India through Tamabil and Sheola land stations remained suspended for the last couple of days as the Indian traders stopped supply protesting one percent tax imposition on coal export by their government.
According to coal importers in the district, the supply of coal from India remained suspended since Wednesday.
The Indian exporters have suspended the supply in protest against imposition of one percent tax on coal export by their government that has been in effect since Wednesday, they added.
A six-member delegation of the district’s Coal Importers’ Group is now visiting India to resolve the crisis over the coal import through discussions with the businesses there.
Talking to UNB, the Group’s president and also the head of the delegation to India, Falah Uddin Ali Ahmad, said they’ve already had meetings with the Exporters and Importers’ Association of Karimganj and Asam districts in India.
About 20,000 workers are involved in the import of coal though the two land customs stations.
