Protection of human lives , livelihood aims at: Climate Resilient Rural Infrastructure Project launched at Gopalganj

Under the joint collaboration of Bangladesh and Denmark Govt. a ‘Climate Resilient Rural Infrastructure Project’ has been launched for five years to protect the climate vulnerable poor women in Gopalganj area under LGED.
The project aims are to improve rural infrastructures to climate resilient standards, train the poor and destitute women to survive better with adverse effect of climate change and create employment of rural poor for livelihood improvement.
The activities of project are improvement of road by earthwork, HBB & CC Block up to 2 feet above from last 20 years average height flood level connecting to disaster shelter, markets & social service centers; construction of drainage structures, embankment slope erosion protection and river ghat; re-excavation of khal; Rain water harvesting; rural market development and road side tree plantation etc. All the activities will be implementing by labour contracting society (LCS) employing of local climate vulnerable poor women to alleviate the poverty.
After completion of each activity LCS women will be provided 4-months long non-formal education and income generating activities training under Farmer Field School (FFS) to improve their livelihood. The target sustainable employment of poor women of this project is minimum 5,000 for 5-years.
In interviewing with Ms. Pinjira Begum, Chairman of LCS group at Tungipara said that, they are very happy to do the work as contract basis under the project and expecting to be self-employed in future destroying enclosure of poverty.
Executive Engineer, LGED, Gopalganj A K Fazlul Haque informed that to protect the lives of climate vulnerable poor and improve their livelihood, this joint collaboration project of Bangladesh and Denmark Govt. will help the country effectively.
