Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has expressed his deep anxiety over the rapid surge in Covid-19 infection in the country and called upon all to follow the health guidelines.
He made the call while presiding over a bench of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday following a two-week vacation.
The Chief Justice urged the lawyers, court officials and staff members and other concerned to follow the health protocols saying the court premises has became a ‘risky’ zone for Covid-19 infection.
Two benches sat in the morning on Wednesday in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain led one bench, while Justice Muhammad Imman Ali led another bench.
Meanwhile, judges and lawyers have taken part in the court proceedings without wearing black coats and gowns as the virus cases and deaths saw an upsurge.
The Chief Justice took the decision over the dress code after discussing with the senior judges, said Mohammad Saifur Rahman, spokesperson of the Supreme Court.
“The Chief Justice of Bangladesh has discussed with the senior judges of the Supreme Court and reached a decision that under the present circumstances, the judges and the lawyers would wear white shirts or sharees or salwar kameez and white neck band or black tie as the case may be. They do not need to wear black coats and gowns,” he said.
Coronavirus was first identified in the country in the month of March last year. Then a year has already passed in the pandemic. Although the beginning of this year was a bit relax, now the number of the daily infection has increased to a record high.
