1000 illegal structures bulldozed

A team of Roads and Highways Department (RHD), led by its Executive Magistrate Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Faruki, conducted a drive to evict illegal structures on both sides of Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar on Monday.
The drive started around 11 am on the road stretching from Savar Bus Stand area to Ganda Bus Stand area.
More than 1000 illegal structures, including makeshift shops and an eight-story building, which was built occupying the road, were demolished during the drive. “We are conducting the drive ahead of the Victory Day on December 16. The drive will continue till tomorrow (Tuesday), said Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Faruki.
Police from Dhaka and Savar took part in the eviction drive.
Meanwhile, some people, whose structures were demolished, alleged that no prior notice was served to them before the drive.
Refuting the allegation, Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Faruki said that people were informed about the drive through loudspeaker.
