CID man held with Yaba: Virus in the antidote

A CONSTABLE of Criminal Investigation Department and one of his associates were arrested with 990 Yaba pills from Savar on Thursday evening, some newspapers reported. The arrestees are Taijuddin, a constable of CID’s Uttara Zone, and his associate Mofiz Mia, said Officer-in-Charge of Detective Branch of Police in Dhaka (North). A team of DB intercepted an auto-rickshaw in Changaon area of Savar and recovered the contraband pills from the possession of the two. During primary interrogation, Taijuddin confessed that they were taking those pills from Dhaka to Savar as part of their illicit business.
It is a very shocking news indeed. When government has declared a war against narcotics to save the country’s young generation from getting spoil at that time a section of dishonest members of the law enforcing agencies are found involved in the dirty drug business. In February, a total of 102 Yaba dealers and smugglers surrendered to police with 350,000 Yaba tablets and 30 firearms in front of Home Minister at an event in Teknaf upazila, Cox’s Bazar. But the situation has not yet improved. Its main reason is that, no mastermind was arrested till the date. Several law enforcement members have so far been arrested for their alleged connection with the drug rackets in the meantime.
Another big reason is that, the drug trafficking business especially Yaba is so flexible that traders do not even need any large amount of investment to get involved. Not only that, the traders carrying or transporting the drug would not have to pay a dime if they got caught by law enforcers along with the drug consignments. Despite ongoing anti-narcotic drives, the drug peddlers are still attracted to Yaba trading, because it promises more money with little work. So here we see that, the arrested CID constable in Savar was no exception. He tried to make more money with little investment and effort when several other big-shots are doing the same.
Until we won’t show sincerity in our effort, the drug business will continue getting covert-patronization from powerful mafia dons and law enforcement members. To win in war against narcotics, the government must arrest the godfathers and patrons; no matter how powerful they are.
