BSS from Chuadanga reports: Chuadanga Free Day observed on Sunday through various programmes.
On this day in 1971, valiant freedom fighters had freed Chuadanga, the then sub-divisional headquarters by defeating Pakistani occupation forces.
Marking the day, district unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad has taken up different programmes which include bringing out of colourful procession from the local barabazar chattar and holding of a discussion meeting at the same place.
Besides, Chuadanga district Awami League also hold a discussion meeting at its office. Besides, different political parties and social organisations have taken similar programmes to mark the day.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The Lalmonirhat Freedom Day was observed on Sunday in Lalmonirhat district town strongly demanding speedy trial of war crimes and full lists of the war criminals, razakars, Al-badrs, Al-shams and collaborators.
The district administration of Lalmonirhat in association with various organisations and freedom fighters brought out a huge victory procession from Lalmonirhat Government High School and gathered at Duck-bungalow ground.
Tens of hundreds of people, including freedom fighters, government and non-government officials and employees, students and teachers, sociocultural and political activists, workers and common people took part in the procession.
Later, a discussion meeting was arranged at Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad auditorium in the district town with Deputy Commissioner of Lalmonirhat Md Habibur Rahman in the chair.
Female Member of the Parliament elected form reserved constituency and noted human rights activist Advocate Safura Begum Rumi attended and addressed the discussion meeting as the chief guest.
Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Motiar Rahman, Superintendent of Police Mozahedul Islam, Senior Vice-president of district Awami league Sirajul Haque, Captain (Retd) Azizul Haque, Bir Pratik, addressed as the special guests.
In their speeches, the speakers demanded speedy trial and execution of the war criminals and banning politics of Jamaat-Shibir for establishing the core spirit of the War of Liberation, non-communal and secular character of the nation.
They asked every citizen and parent of the country to inform the young generation about the true national history to assist them in realising as how and why their forefathers fought a bloody War of Liberation against the Pakistani forces in 1971.
They urged the people to remain united in line with spirit of the War of Liberation and assist the present government in finishing speedy trial of the war criminals and ensuring the punishments they deserve for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.
