A partnership agreement in this regard was signed last November between Guangzhou Industry and Trade Technician College, China and Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) and Skills and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) under Technical and Madrasa Education Division of Ministry of Education.
The training of the first batch of the teachers and the officials began in
Guangzhou of China on Friday. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, who is now in China, inaugurated the 10-day training at Guangzhou Industry and Trade Technician College in the morning.
Guangzhou Municipality Vice Mayor Li Ming, Bangladesh Technical and Madrasa Education Division Additional Secretary and Directorate of Technical Education Director General Ashok Kumar Biswas, Skills and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) Director M Emran, National Skills Development Council (NSDC) Chief Executive Officer ABM Khorshed Alam, STEP Deputy Director Joydev Chandra Saha and Engineer M Nuruzzaman were present on the occasion.
Nurul Islam Nahid said, the Bangladesh government is committed to boosting technical education in the country. He said when the present government took over power, the enrollment rate of students in technical education was very low. It has now been increasing rapidly reaching 14 percent.
“Bangladesh has achieved this tremendous growth due to various initiatives taken by the people-oriented democratic government,” he said, adding that the government’s target is to lift the enrolment rate to 20 percent by 2020 and 40 percent by 2040 as “technically sound manpower is vital in achieving economic growth.”
“We are trying our best to achieve double digit GDP (gross domestic product) growth. And for that, we know, we need skilled manpower,” the Education Minister said.
The Minister expressed the hope that this training will ensure overall development and management of a modern technical education in Bangladesh covering organizational excellence, culture and governance, curriculum development and academic management.
“I hope that under this three-year agreement, selected training institutions will be enriched by improving skills of trainees,” he added.
“China is our tested friend. China and its people always remain with Bangladesh and its people. It is also one of the largest donors in infrastructure development in Bangladesh,” the Minister said. He said Bangladesh always appreciates the long-term support of China for its economic and social development and for the friendship bridges built by China to promote connectivity.
